Coming to church?

You may have been thinking about coming to church for some

time. We have written this page to try to make things easier for

you to find out more.

We promise to make you welcome but not to put you under

any pressure. You are free to come, have a look, and if you

prefer not to come back!

If, on the other hand, you would like to get more involved, there

are plenty of opportunities to use your talents. Again, no

pressure — promise!

What happens in church?

At most of our services, we sing songs, listen to Bible

readings, praise God, pray, and sometimes share bread and

wine. The atmosphere is relaxed and children are most

welcome at any time. Don’t feel you have to sing or do anything

else that you don’t want to!

When you come into church, you will usually be handed a

notice sheet which contains information about forthcoming events and contact details.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions if you have any concerns whatsoever.

Where to sit

Please feel free to sit anywhere in church. (You may find it best to avoid the front row so that you can follow the people in front of you)! If you sit behind a pillar, you won’t be able to see very much!

Sharing of bread and wine (communion)

Members of all Christian churches who normally receive the bread and wine are invited to come and receive communion . If you do not wish to receive communion, we welcome you to come forward to receive a blessing. Please keep your hands below the rail.

Toilet facilities

Do feel free to go out during the service if you need the toilet. Please ask any member of the congregation for directions.

What to wear

You may be wondering what to wear. Ordinary clothes are fine. Casual clothes are fine. If you prefer to dress up, that is fine. . We want you to feel at home.

Children

Everyone is welcome at St Mary's. We have properly supervised children’s groups most Sundays. If you have small children, don’t worry if they make a bit of noise during the service.

Child protection policy

As far as the safety of children is concerned, we are committed to doing the utmost to protect young people who are involved in any of our activities. All of our children's leaders are CRB checked.

After the service

Join us for a cup of tea/coffee/squash! You will be most welcome.
